When my shifu first started me on hung ga, we did knuckle push-ups and sit-ups on the concrete. In the many months since I started hung gar, my knuckles have become hard and well-developed (not huge and problematic, but functional).
SOMEHOW, however, the knuckle on the ring finger of my right hand did not develop as well as the other knuckles. I do not know how this happened. On my left hand, my bottom 3 knuckles are perfectly arranged so that pressure can be evenly distributed among them. On my right hand, however, the pinky and middle knuckle are more developed than the ring knuckle. What this means is that now when I do knuckle push-ups, the pressure is all on my middle knuckle and the inside of my pinky knuckle. This is causing problems for my pinky knuckle.
Since I noticed this problem, I have stopped doing knuckle push-ups (to avoid long-term damage). I asked my shifu, and he said that it was a rather unusual thing to have happened, and suggested that I try wall push-ups on only the ring knuckle (like on the edge of a brick wall), to develop it.
If any one here has any kind of creative solution to developing my ring knuckle, it would be MUCH appreciated. I would hate to have to learn how to become a left-handed fighter
