Hi Jerry Battle-sifu, my sifu says hi and that he apologizes for not keeping in touch. He said he will call you later in the week.
My sifu and his training brothers, as well as my sigung, urge us to always keep an open mind and not close ourselves off to other ideas. In my sigung and sibak's recent article, sigung refers to huen as the half point. He also states that the 6 1/2 points/techniques are in a sense the embodiment of our 14 keywords.
For us, we consider both dim and huen as possible half points, depending on the practitioner's need. For instance, as my uncle Yui stated, dim can be considered the half point because it easily combines with other techniques (ex. combining dim and tan to strike the opponent's lead hand). Huen can also be considered a half point because, as my sigung stated in the article, in actual usage half the circle is used, and it also combines with the other points (ex. back circle to but/clear, or forward circle to tan).
Just my two cents on a topic that I'm very excited about, yet very new to. I apologize for any mistakes, and I look forward to viewing more on this by those more experienced than I.
