Absolutely CJ888,
Hop Gar Grandmaster David Chin has been putting out "Longhand beasts" for close to 40 years. In USA Gung Fu circles, he is still known as one of the very best. My point is, there is plenty fighting Gung Fu available if you take the time to find it. Problem is, some guys who live in backwaters and who'd like to be an "expert", still can't be troubled to find the right Sifu and do it properly. Instead, they troll our forums with their pea-shooters, griping like the fox in "Sour Grapes".
Now, this started out as a thread specifically about whether or not Cung Le was a Hung Gar practitioner. I can agree
we may surmise that he is not, for the reason being, as Subitai pointed out, that "it's not (his) kind of fighting".
Or, for the reason tendered by Pork Chop, how did he say it, "unless someone has already done the reverse engineering of Hung Gar to pull out the ring effective techniques, put those effective techniques into a coherent syllabus with specific strategies, and has a proven track record of successful fighters; I doubt Cung's going to put a whole lot of stock into what they say."
That's fine...of course we don't see Cung Le trying to get ranked in Korean arts either, but that's right where his side kick, spin hook kick, and leg scissors come from...and which doesn't seem to have detracted from his Muay Thai game much in particular...fair enough?
The same thing can be said for Longhands and Boxing.
Good point Yoga makes about Cung Le not needing other styles. At this point, if he wins or loses it is not going to be based on style, but on the martial artist that he is. However, be that as it may, with talent like that, I would still
love to see what Cung could do with a year of Longhand training!
