I see my si-hings name was brought up. Chris Heintzmen is THE MAN!!! He is a straight up beast and Moe is the man as well. He is the fighter of the school, well the main one at least of the school. All of the fighters though to my knowledge are doing well.

Ok. With all due respect to everyone mentioned. The ONLY person I have ever known of to actually step in the Octogon from Hung gar is "O". Bigs up especially in light of the lack of rules at the time.

Though I really would have loved to see Sifu Hamby go against GrandMaster Rorian Gracie at any age. That would be a fight I would have loved to seen.

Who really cares if Cung le uses Hung Gar? He could whip your ass. Period. If you doubt that go to his gym and challenge him to a match. See what happens. I would venture to say that most on this board would get their ass whupped.

A good fighter is good. Regardless of style.

Absolutely CJ888,

Hop Gar Grandmaster David Chin has been putting out "Longhand beasts" for close to 40 years. In USA Gung Fu circles, he is still known as one of the very best. My point is, there is plenty fighting Gung Fu available if you take the time to find it. Problem is, some guys who live in backwaters and who'd like to be an "expert", still can't be troubled to find the right Sifu and do it properly. Instead, they troll our forums with their pea-shooters, griping like the fox in "Sour Grapes".

Now, this started out as a thread specifically about whether or not Cung Le was a Hung Gar practitioner. I can agree
we may surmise that he is not, for the reason being, as Subitai pointed out, that "it's not (his) kind of fighting".
Or, for the reason tendered by Pork Chop, how did he say it, "unless someone has already done the reverse engineering of Hung Gar to pull out the ring effective techniques, put those effective techniques into a coherent syllabus with specific strategies, and has a proven track record of successful fighters; I doubt Cung's going to put a whole lot of stock into what they say."

That's fine...of course we don't see Cung Le trying to get ranked in Korean arts either, but that's right where his side kick, spin hook kick, and leg scissors come from...and which doesn't seem to have detracted from his Muay Thai game much in particular...fair enough?

The same thing can be said for Longhands and Boxing.

Good point Yoga makes about Cung Le not needing other styles. At this point, if he wins or loses it is not going to be based on style, but on the martial artist that he is. However, be that as it may, with talent like that, I would still love to see what Cung could do with a year of Longhand training!

:D

Thanks for posting that clip of Sifu Hamby, Daifong.

I've met him a few times and he is truly a quiet storm. He's one of the most civil person I met that can kick your a$$ is so many ways. This video shows his depth because while doesn't approach the opponent as the "bigger/badder" guy, he also doesn't shy away from his height and reach advantage. He shows technique but also tactics that are HG appropriate to the opponent. Too many times you see short guys play a long game and tall guys play a short game because that's what their "sifu does".

I had to LOL when the guy went for the single leg. Must suck to have Hamby land on top of you.
