well, that is more than half a year ago - our guys are doing much better today. just this friday we had 2 hours of friendly fulll contact sparring with a xingyi practitioner and a baguazhang/shuai jiao/boxing practitioner, both with a dozen of years of experience under their belt.
way to do? well, learn free fighting systematically and methodically from a qualified teacher, with the "more is not better, more is just more" approach. be ready for hard work. fighting looks cool on a video or a movie, reality is far less romantic.

Yes I must say that in my school we train hard and I like it.
Your concept "more is not better, more is only more" is very interesting, in particulary for the point of view of equilibrium.
Sparring is similar to yours, but what I want to say, maybe naiver than before, it is that sparring doesn't seem similar to "forms", "tao lu". My question is "how I can unite these two world?", it's a way that come with time and experience?
However it is possible that forms don't mean, automatically, fighting, but they are preliminary to fighting... So my question is, how ancient chineses did fight? The similitude with kick-boxe approaching during sparring and fighting it is due to the common body that join all mankind? Or It's a distortion that the globalization created?
Because my english isn't perfect, advance I'm sorry, and I hope that I can make clear my thinking.

I just think that you're UN-aware that you answer you own question.
IE. Do you do your forms with San Shou equipment on? Just something to think about.
I think that some traditional skills are universal and cross the streams...but for the most part if I really wanted to be good at the sport of San Shou or (saan da) I would concentrate solely on those skills, train in that manner and just plain spar/fight allot in that manner.
IMO, You're either ok in both or potentially really good at one.
