Wong Kei Ying's
Gwai Ji Geuk/ "Crutch-Kick", commonly referred to as a "Shadowless kick", which also includes the "Yin-Lifting Kick", "Court-Sweeping Leg", "Propping-Rooster Leg", and "Single-Standing Golden Rooster Leg"). These skills, because issuing such a counter is so extremely fast that the opponent is unable to detect a shadow, are therefore called the "Shadowless Kicks".
The "Crutch-Kick" of the
Siu Lam Hung Ga system, likewise a "Shadowless Kick", is referred to as a
Gwai Ji/ "Crutch". The idea of it is to
Heui Jiu/ "Counter with Emptiness". When issuing this counter-attack against an opponent, it is first necessary by means of emptiness to strike forth, "signalling the east to attack the west", distracting the opponent's ears and eyes. This type of "empty counter" is referred to as a
Gwai Ji/ "Crutch", and also called the
Ying Da/ "Shadow-Strike" as well.
From
Siu Lam writings, we have the words,
Mo Gwai Bat Sing Geuk/ "Without The Crutch There Can Be No Kick". The idea being that, with every
Siu Lam leg technique, whenever raising a kick to attack the opponent, one must simultaneously counter using emptiness while distracting the opponent's ears and eyes. If there is no empty counter, it is not a lineage Siu Lam kicking technique, for sure. This is why it's called the "Crutch-Kick"/
Gwai Ji Geuk.
Pavel, after translating this I am disappointed...
I was looking forward to a story about Wong Kei Ying?
