I have had some lessons in Bak Mei and it seems to me that the training the hung ga people go through is more tough applies more brute force.For example, a bak mei fighter is more close range and aims with punches to the neck,groin,nose or a leopard fist to the neck or kick to knees or groin. It's effectiveness and tactics I don't doubt but it seems as more of a close range fight with a lack of ferocity that hung ga has.So how was it possible that the white eyebrow priest could have endured such heavy hammer fists to his body,or getting ripped by claw attacks from gee sin?Unless,
1)His reflexes were very fast
or
2)He analyzed and observed Gee Sin fighting before
3)He was just way to quick before a hammer fist could land a blow on him.
I have learnt hung ga as well and from my observation,it gives a straight kick to the stomach with the intention to knock down the opponent,full force concentrated punch to the stomach with the intent of knocking the opponent backwards,forcefully concentrated right hook/swing with the intent to cause brain damage,and the best i've seen is that when a weak point in the opponent is absent,the hung ga user will swing or kick the opponent at just about anywhere with full force to win.For example,an opponent is using a bare handed boxing stance to guard his head and has his weak points like his ears and neck covered and is also prepared if anyone aims for his nose.All the opponent's weak points on the head are covered but the hung ga fighter will right hook heavily at the opponent's guarding hand or shoulder just to break his bones to make up for the absence of a weak point.
In a way,the mods may think this belongs more in the Multimedia section,but the question here is related to application and principle for a discussion of bak mei and hung ga pro and cons or close range soft/hard(bak mei) vs long range predominantly hard style(hung ga).
