Having worked with both Tae Kwon Do and Judo, and now Hung Gar, I have noticed quite a bit of variation on the heel down issue. I am used to pivoting on the ball of the foot for quick movement and kicks, but to do so in Judo would be worthless. Trying to hoist someone with your hip without a good heel-grounding goes nowhere. Luckily the idea of physical contact on the heel (aka grabbing something, pushing or pulling,) is still in my spine, so to speak. All I have to do now is grind the heel concept into my strikes, for I still sometimes raise the back heel on the Ping Chui/Yat Gee Chui techniques.
Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking.
If you cheat, may you cheat death.
If you steal, may you steal a woman's heart.
If you fight, may you fight for a brother.
And if you drink, may you drink with me.
