hello to all Hung Kyun practitioners, enthusiasts and fighters,
i would like to start a general discussion about rules of Hung Kyun Saan Da fullcontact sparring: time, rounds, protective gear, judges, techniques, fouls etc. etc.
i have been discussing the rules of fullcontact fighting with some friends from different fullcontact disciplines (Muay Thai, boxing, MMA, Yoseikan, sanshou). each of them has some pro/contras. from what i have seen, i like most something like http://www.daidojuku.com/eng/kudo/rule.html ie. closer to streetfighting/RBSD/MMA than common full contact disciplines like kickboxing, Muay Thai and boxing.
what are your suggestions and opinions? it would be really nice if we can agree on certain rules. i am not talking about any tournaments right now, but it would be nice whenever a practitioners from different Hung Kyun school comes to pay a visit that we can have a friendly sparring match. also, i kind of like the idea of something like this http://www.wingchunpedia.org/pmwiki/pmw ... nFightClub

If you want to make it into a sport, why not follow sanda rules? I guess you have thought about it and rejected that, but I wonder what made you reject them.
I'm really not into sports and all, but I really think Hung Kuen is not something that can be done under sporting rules...

When the boys and I spar we use gloves (fingerless,) TKD helmets and chest guards, along with shin guards, mouthguards, and groin protectors. I also like using elbow pads just in case.
The only rules are no touching the knees, and no fingers or claws to the face. We do have face shields, but the construction makes it iffy to see below a certain level, which makes it hard to catch attacks going to the midriff and below, so we don't use them. Obviously joint locks or attacks are very light, more as a 'see if you got it' type of thing.

Doesn't seem like a problem. The only problem I see is finding a glove that you can wear, that you can do cup choy with that doesn't get your fingers smashed up on a face cage/grill/mask. Boxing gloves work, but then you cannot grab. Cobra chops are cool, Ihave to play more with them.
I have decided to use the headgear used by Kuoshu, It's a standard boxing type, but with the catcher's mask attached. I think it satisfies all the rulesets for most of the full and semi-contact tournaments.
I hate having to tell my students that they need three different sets of gear.
