hello,

i know that. why BUT: Executioners from Shaolin, the first movie i know that has introduced Hung Manding, was shot in 1976, ie. 4 years before Ng Ho's text.

second, i have the book by Jyu Yujai. so far, i did not find a word of Hung Manding there. if you did, please tell me where.

i have also tried Google in Chinese - nothing but movies. just one taiwanese website states their lineage as Hung Heigun - Hung Manding - Luk Achoi...

Also if you think that a book writen by the mainland about its martial hero's would come from the government you gotta be joking as at that time a lot of them were outlawed you know FAN CHING FOOK MING.

Even today the government dont care about this type of thing if you were to go the the Beijing University you would have a hard job trying to tell fact from fiction as most of what they have would be from fokelore.

it's fair enough what frankylau stated. it was told him by his sifu and sigung, so no need for his sifu to back him up.
oral tradition is an important thing but there are also texts that contain good information in english and chinese. we have to deal with all this information with care. finding the thruth and the real history of hung gar is the goal of this topic and this subforum.
so no need to talk sh.t here.

Dont care too much what franky lau stated,lots of films have half truths in their stories then other things are added to make it more exciting.we has Hung practitioners dont like to admit that Hung hei kwun was killed by Bak mei sometime the truth hurts our ego's.SO WE SAY HE LIVED A LONG LIFE

You have an interesting point of view here. If you know for certain that Ng Ho also got his information for this text from the HK filmarchives, then his text is useless for us. But the thing is that he is giving his sources and does not mention the filmarchives.

For this moment I think his text is of value for us. The thing we don't know is who came up with Hung Man Ding, son of Hung Hei Gun. Was it Lau Kar Leung, as FrankyLau stated, or one of the sources (books) that Ng Ho was citing. We will know for sure when the sources that Ng Ho used are read/translated.

In 2002 my unofficial si-baak Mark Houghton came to do a 2 week Malaysian Hung Kuen course, and also did a D.V.D commentary for the english release of a Yuen Biao film Kickboxer/Once Upon A Time A Chinese Hero (about Gwai Gerk Chat) in my si-fu Jim Uglow's kwoon, I was there too for a short documentary on Hung Kuen for the D.V.D (I demonstrated Wu Dip Jeung). The commentary was about the history of Hung Kuen and kung fu movies etc, Mark catagorically states that Hung Hei Goon killed Bak Mei but was blinded in the fight and died shortly afterwards and that Hung Men Ding has never appeared in any orthodox lineage chart he has ever seen and that he was certain the son, IF he existed, would have studied from his mother in Baak Hok.
