That's just crazy! How high are the poles? They look like 8'-9'? There's about 2' of padding next to each pole.

Anyway, I spoke with a student from the school and they ended up losing first place by .03 points! because the wind caught them as the lion head was standing on the tail's shoulders and blew them off the stands. He said the wind was a problem that day.

According to International Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, the highest poles are 2.3m high, the shortest one is around 1.3m.
Each competition usually has a limit on how many poles of each size you can use.
