How many tournaments per year?

OK although not a sifu (seriously! :p) I'd like to add my view... Usually I'd like to enter a tournament once a year. Although I agree with PM's comments above it does still to some point give you an idea where you are. Although many lin gung aspects can't be seen from just doing a form.

Otherwise, I'd like to go along with every tournament there is. usually to make photos and such, but also for the atmosphere. Even though forms might not be all that for before described reasons its still a martial event and theres always soemthing to be seen, new friends to be made, etc. This is my main reason to come along on such events. Its also a good opportunity to chat with people as theres less time for that during class.

That said, anyone from the forum going to Gevelsberg Saturday? If all goes well should be there too, its the one event a year I like to enter myself.

Had a great time today, met Shuen as well as a few others, so was great overall. The day started with very nice liondance, improved a lot again over the past year. I have it on video so I hope to put it on YouTube one of these days. If Shuen is OK with it I'll mix some of his, and m own performance as well in it.

Shuen and his fellow students did very well, impressed by Sifu Blucks' students and the warm interaction between our groups.

Also engaged some of the lesser points of sports. Did some formalities wrong which costed me points, argh. Stuff like that I dislike, it shouldn't affect your performance IMO. Overall I can be pleased though.

regarding to pics and vids i´m with you asmo. you can use / mix pics or vids of me. I would be glad to give you my pics / vids and get yours. We clear this with pms.

little more on topic:
i share the opinion of asmo. I neither make any special "preparation" for competition. I do them for fun, and not for winning. So i just play a form try the give the best. that´s it. i do not make ANY changes to the form to make it more impressive / get more points. i play it as a was taught, and as i would make an application. No flowery movement for the competition, nothing.

the only things i pay more attention at competition as "at home" are some of the "formalities". Is my belt ok, and stuff like this....is that stuff what you had in mind with formalities, asmo? i do think, too that some judges pay too much attention to that. you shouldn't´t look like a beggar, but to get more points because your shirt is perfectly ironed or your clothes are "shiny" and so more impressive...well, good kungfu should be first...

No... In Germany they usually go up to the headjudge table and announce name, school, form, etc. We never do that, just greet the judges and start our forms. But starting this year apparently they subtract 0,1 points if you don't. Of course I only found out after my three forms, argh. That made a difference here and there...

I enjoy the tournament for other rasons as well of course, but if I enter a competition I also love to get out of it what's possible, hehe. Why enter anyway
