Here is another 10 killing hands

Postby Mig » Sat Aug 02, 2008 12:12 am

I am not quite sure if the 10 killing hands are a preference defense/attack stances or something that people had made up. Your input is appreciated.
I have a picture from a website claiming the 10 killing hands but are not the ones you mentioned in the posting. As soon as I know I will upload it.

Thanks,

In the Dang Fong branch, we have a set called Gau Ji Lin Wan Kuen formerly know as Gau Duk Lin Wan Kuen. From my understanding, this set was created by Dang Fong with the assistance of Ho Lap Tin Sigung. Along with some of the techniques already listed, there are lots of kup choi and some Chop choi lin wan kuen (Technique that Bak Sing Choy Lei Fuht is known for). The Mo Ying Guerk is performed twice within the set as well as the use of Huht Yi Long Maai (Beggar asking for rice, which you see as a common pose in the Wong Fei Hung movies, particularly Jet Li). One particular person that I have witness doing this set was a student of my good friend and gung fu brother Frank Rivera of Lau Ke Dong's lineage. His student Jamal Bakar did a great job of demonstrating this set to me some years ago.

hello Jerry, thank you for your input. if you have a minute, i have a lot of questions :-) i have never seen the set and do not know much about it, of course i would love to.

what does the name of the set means?

gau ji lin waan kyun - nine ? continuos fist? (ji = sons?)

gau duk lin waan kyun - nine unique/poisonious continuous fist?

apart from Grandmaster Ho Laptin, do other branches of Dang Fong Hung Kyun have the set?

any detailed info on this set and "shooting star" is very appreciated. one interesting thing is that they contain a lot of CLF/lama paai like long bridges

thank you

Hey PM,

All of Dang Fong's students should have this set. Gau Ji is Nine Sons and the Gau Duk is nine poisons. I once heard from an source outside of my school that Dang Fong practice some CLF at one time. As far as Hop Ga or Lama Pai is concerned I know for a fact that Ho Lap tin studied it prior to learning Hung Ga.

The one thing about the shooting star boxing is that there are no fu jau except for when we salute but there are lots of leopard fist strikes.

With the Nine Sons set, there are lots of kup choi used where one arm swings down to block an attack and the other arm follows as a kup choi to the opponent. Unlike shooting star boxing, the nine sons use a series of tiger claw strikes the first one angles 45 degrees to to the right and then step 45 degrees to the left and repeat the pattern on the opposite side.

Most of the techniques in Gau Ji are done one after the other hence the reason for calling it lin waan kuen. one of the techniques I really like is the use of the tiger's mouth to block and the striking with Fung ngan Choi underneath. But as I said previously, the Mo Ying Guerk is done twice but in different ways. Other methods are the immortal descend, spade fist, carrying wood right and left. sup ji fan gum, Gam Lung Hin Jau, Hak Fu Tau sam, Chin Ji sau, Soi Long Pau Choi, Hau ji tau toh, Hak fu jau faht, Chut sing lin waan kuen faht and Haut Yi Long Mai.

excellent! thank you very much for your info!

btw. does anybody knows why is it called "nine sons"? is it not "nine seeds" (another meaning of the character ji 子)? something like "nine seed techniques"? i do not now the background, so i am just guessing

"Sao Jook Yue Hing Dai"-Hands and feet are like brothers. Often ,when hands work together, they are also referred to as brothers. Ji is also points, so it could have a hidden meaning.(Gung-Fu is very "punny") Nine points continuous striking-notice that the rhythm and feel is continuous attack rather than one breath, one strike, with all attacks centered at vital areas in fast continuation, it is no wonder this set is taught after the pillar forms in many schools.
