hello to all HK sisters and brothers,

how about open a thread with HK proverbs and maxims, HK "training poetry" and tips, analyse them and discuss? i know plenty of them, and find them very useful in the actual practice.

let us start eg, with this one:

"sink to the ground and root yourself, be stable and steady as a Mount Taai" (lok dei sang gan, wan yu Taai saan)

Good idea PM :) That should bring quite a few discussions to liven the place up.

About this one, I see the obvious first as rooting is key in Hung Kuen. Work on stancetraining so your base is stable to perform your techniques from.

On second level, it could have meanings beyond the obvious physical rooting and also point out that you need to be stable and steady mentally as well. The second part of the poem leaves that interpretation open to me.

ok, next one:

---

"before you start to practice techniques/sets, practice stance training" (mei lin kyun tou sin lin jaat ma)

---

(i hope others will also contribute)

Hahaha PM, that was not a whole lot of discussion on the first poem ;)

I'll leave the second initially to others (common people :)), but I have a feeling it would be better placed before the first you brought up ;)

the first is of particular interest I think, I wanted to find out more about mount taai, i couldn't find mount taai but mount tai, i assume is the same thing, here is a snipit from wiki:

Mount Tai (Chinese: 泰山; pinyin: Tài Shān) is a mountain of historical and cultural significance located north of the city of Tai'an, in Shandong Province, China. The tallest peak is Jade Emperor Peak (simplified Chinese: 玉皇顶; traditional Chinese: 玉皇頂; pinyin: Yùhuáng Dīng), which is commonly reported as 1545 metres (5069 ft) tall[1], but is described by the Chinese government as 1532.7 metres (5028.5 ft)[2].

Mount Tai is one of the "Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism". It is associated with sunrise, birth, and renewal, and is often regarded the foremost of the five. The temples on its slopes have been a destination for pilgrims for 3,000 years.

Interestingly I feel with this information further depth can be added to the poem, it may speak of the influence taoism has had in the development of hung ga, also the revered status of mount tai in taoism speaks of the importance of rooting, rooting can be seen as one of the "Sacred" keys to hung ga.

thanks I'm enjoying this thread!

Ok then, let me throw one into the discussion:

"When the wind blows through the tree, the whole tree moves."

What do you think this poem means?
