Loose the finger?

Should we replace the bridehand by claws?

No! It really makes a difference.

Yes! I'm more of a claw-type of person.

I am a little confused, do you mean that one should lose the kiu sao for forms practice or for application?

For forms practice, no I don't think so. I does help train the arms and does specific stuff to the nervous system that is important to developing ging.

For fighting I would never use it in street fight again. While it did stop the fight quick I nearly broke my damn finger in the process. Believe me eye pokes are fight stoppers, but use a cranes beak instead.

Now a claw IS very usefull in a street fight or a MMA fight. I love using them against my MMA buddies when we spar. The always complian because it is usually followed by me using a strong grip on whatever I hit. hehehe. BTW- doesn't work so well on a good muy thai fight though!

Asmo,

Why do you think the kiu sao may help in developing ging? Not trying to be an ass, just want to hear what you think the answer may be.

As to using a fujow on a Thai boxer, while the technique does work well, I was reffering to grabbing them after the strike. It leaves you very open to getting into a clinch. Thai boxing is very strong in a clinch, elbows and knees will rain down! Also they tend to be very tough and phyically very solid sometimes hard to grab the flesh. Although I have found the grab using in leading to takedowns.

I personally hate getting elbow and knee strikes. The hurt like hell and take FOREVER to heal, especially if you get a cut.

Yogicmotion, I really would not know, hence why I ask. Its not like I have not tried to think that all over (before, and now when starting this thread) :) Sure I feel some difference in muscles in the forearm, but thats logical as I'm using the muscles differently. But if it makes a difference?

I'm not so into believing stretching the finger stretches a meridian or anything like that.

I think the pressure in the forearm is mainly built up by pulling the wrist back (focus on the back of the hand).

The rest has been discussed before in the thread I think.

Maybe you mean its helping you focus where the energy should go? (mind leads chi) That in relation to 'ging' would/could make sense to me. Other then that I remain completely in the dark...

Asmo, you are actually on the right track. How well do you know anatomy?

Hmm, not something I have studied or anything. Pretty much non-existent I'm afraid...

Ohhh....okay. That makes sense. I don't really go for take-downs unless I just want to move on to something else. The main thing I use the claw for is...well....clawing...lol. In one of my matches I actually drew blood quite a few times and he had marks all over his body. I am working on the grip now.

I don't know anything a long with anatomy either, not that the question was aimed toward me or anything, but I definitely feel a difference as Asmo said since it is using different muscles.

BTW, if your finger is straight you actually cant tense/contract the corresponding muscle in the arm. Try bending your wrist back as hard as you can while doing a claw, and then straighten the fingers, you'll loose tension/power in the arm as you stretch the finger(s).

Like PM explained me while I was there, when doing palm techniques the fingers should be loose and not tensed, as it looses power in the wrist where it should be performing the technique.
