Bridge Hand?

Postby crazedjustice888 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 8:23 am

In all the stuff I read, and have been taught, I have been told to keep the index finger as straight as possible when forming this hand shape. Why is it though, that all of the masters I see in films, bend it?

Or should I just feel retarded for asking this kind of question? lol

In our lineage we keep the finger slightly bend...
this is something that differs from family to family.starting from the pinky finger we say the fingers are earth, heaven, people the thumb is loyalty..
The index finger represent the people between heaven and earth ,we keep it slightly bend because we cant be bigger than heaven so we bow to heaven...
there are other meanings so this goes for the Lau Family...

Basically, it is harder to keep it straight than to keep it slightly bent..

Our standpoint is that this posture is called 'single finger holding up heaven'... have you ever seen a crooked supporting beam holding up something heavy ?

can not agree, theres almost no difference when doing it..its so slight.
Its not like a 90 degree angle or something like that..
I can do this with the finger completely straight just as the same..its just a symbolic meaning to it..

Interesting - You feel no pull on the tendons when trying to keep it completely straight with your arm extended ?
That pull gives resistance against keeping your finger straight, which makes it harder.

You are thinking of a too big difference.. its bent but not bent enough to feel a difference to when its straightened...sorry maybe my english is not good enough to explain ...

Okay, sorry, it makes sense now. But you get the same benefits as though you are keeping it straight?

The posture of the single finger depends heavily on the bend writch, and the other bend fingers. Not on a straight or slightly bend digitus secundus.

Important is a wide gap between index finger and middle finger. This will also influence the strengthening of your forearm.

Yes, big answers. lol

Yes, I still have some, like when you see the guy holding out his arm, and no one can budge it. How does he do this?

I am still very much a novice.

Oh, and about the German, I have no idea. I can't speak a lick of it. HAHHAHAHA!!
