Well, I don't mind sharing, but next to work, teaching and training I don't have that much time for scanning.
One day I'd like to scan all my magazines completely though (mostly real kungfu, also in Chinese, and about 10 issues of old New Martial Hero, as well as most of New Martial Hero from 2000 - current), best all in 300 dpi, so they can be reprinted by a printing-on-demand company and be available again.
Maybe we could form a group of scanners and make a special Hung Ga book with articles only on a non-profit base.

Where do you guys get those magazines from? All eBay and such?

BTW, on translating these articles. I had this setup I tried once:

I used Omnipage where I loaded the image in. It allowed me to scan the image using simplified Chinese. I then copy/pasted that to online translation tools such as Babelfish.

Anyone has a different setup?

I realize that without knowledge of Chinese being a context relying language it is hard to translate. And it sure showed this way, was pretty hard to get a coherent understandable piece of text.

Any other way(s) to make these articles readable for non-chinese readers?

Maybe anyone a tip to use for the OCR stage? Maybe Omnipage was not a good program to start with.

I wouldn't mind to spent some time translating these articles this way and post the results back here for everyone to enjoy.

I've got many magazines from friends in the past.
Also several years ago, once in a while you could find these old magazines on e-bay and would pay only 10 us dollar for it.
Sometimes you can also find this magazines in shops for just a small price.

However, on e-bay nowadays too many people serach for the old magazines. Sellers know this and thus the price for these kind of magazines on e-bay is outragious.
(while I suspect the seller just buys these in some Chinatown old shop for just a buck, some magazines are sold over 100 us dollar now).
So acutally I don't go to e-bay at all anymore - bidding almost always makes you pay more than it's really worth.

I spoke with the publisher of New Martial Hero just last week in HK and he's working on making photo copies of circa 300 issues (that's all the old issues). So it won't take to long before all is available for a reasonable price.

If I scan them as pdf, I can select the language as traditional chinese too.
However when you copy and past it, only ca. 85% of the characters is correct (in the pdf they are shown correct, but the reckoginition filter behind it is not 100%). With other OCR for traditional Chinese I've only reached about 75-80 % being reckoginised correct.
Thus you even get a lot of garbage translations with that.

So either learning Chinese or having a Chinese do the translation will work then... Too bad. Too much else to learn before I have time to learn Chinese

I've got alot more.

So many people have bee generous to me I just return te favor. Especially in Eagle Claw as there are very few articles and books on the subject.

Still I run into quite a few individuals who are always taking and never share in return. I won't let that deter me though.
