mok, I am, banditshaw - yes.
markt: i still do not agree about paau jaang. paau jaang (tai kiu, not bik kiu) is not about taking punishment/absorbing/etc., please read again my description how paau jaang is performed - it is not just about the hand, but stance, footwork, body and head. although it may look similar to MMA shielding (which works perfectly, ours could be performered like this) as you said, it is not - when 2 do the same thing, it is not the same thing. btw. there are many both traditional (like Philipino) and modern (KEYSI KFM) systems using extensively this type and similar of "blocking". eveyrybody does it differently, but the question is - does it work or not? last thing, as i wrote before - it is just one of many defensive techniques against this type of attack, ie. roundhouse something, that we train. we drill chyun kiu, chau kyun, laan tau etc. a lot, although i have no doubt we drill them differently than a lot of the HK guys out there.
to your other question about the "guard": one of many baai jongs (bik kiu); we use. my sifu says, use whatever baai jong you like, HK does not have any specific and only one baai jong. i teach cca. 3-5 different baai jongs, everybody uses the one he feels most comfortable with, or flows from one to another one according the situation and needs. anyway, as most of the drils are for self-defense, we do not bother with baai jong that much - your first move is baai jong, whatever move it is, and than you just keep hitting. your other hand in wu sau position is kind of the baai jong.
context: i of course DO teach stuff that is not part of traditional Hung Kyun, ie. how to throw a low kick/high kick (because we train how to deal with them), basic groundfighting drills (ie. if you end up on the ground, how to get to a better position, STAND UP and continue the fight standing again) etc., but i always say: this is NOT the part of our Hung Kyun Jing Jung curriculum. it is something i want my students to be comfortable with - all ranges, all possible situations and scenarios. this is not the case - modern equipment, but good old HK stuff.
anyway - when people see our Hung Kyun, they always say - hey, you do it diferently. i always say - hey, thanks God, i really hope so. and yes, we listen to AC/DC on the training, not that Wong Feihung tune
thank you, i hope to post more vids in the future, eg. more focus mitts drills (with steps, counter attacks, daan/seung fu jaau, po paai sau... )
all the best
