I was surprised that Chow Gar SPM had this form as I assumed (wrongly) that Kung Fu was all stand up with no ground game.
It's been real fun learning bits of it.

It doesn't look like "ground game" as much as it does attacking a standing target from the ground. Isn't that called earth court or gate or something? I dunno. Anyway, lots of this in Fujian dog boxing, as well as a similar move in our hung ga butterfly palms and some others that I have not learned yet.

All I meant was that there seemed to be no ground work of any sort. Although that said I was learning apps from this form on the ground (ie. guard) as well as using it for takedowns.

I have seen the set a few times in demonstrations by a student of Sifu Whitrod.

If I remember correctly, the complete set is a little longer. It's kicking and ground kicking/scissors. First the set starts standing, then has kicks from the ground and scissors to take peope down.

I was told that compared to the related Chu Ka Tong Long the Ip family has more sets: they wanted to make the system a little more rounded. (Perhaps Chow Gar practitioners can tell more on this.)

Anyway, the set looks interesting and I almost wonder why other styles as Hung Kuen didn't incorporate similar.
