Great topic PM.
1) In our family I would say TSK is central. For me personally I would say TSK, Gung Zi, and Fu Hoc Deui Caak
- TSK - teaches power development, aspects of iron shirt, and alchemical transformation (tendon changing, marrow washing).
- Gung Zi - this is my favorite set. I love it and hate it because it can still kick my butt. Like the others I feel it contains all the seeds of Hung and really is pretty close to a complete system on it's own.
- I like the Fu Hoc partner set as pairing with Gung Zi. It gives a student a chance to explore contact and expand their study of body mechanics and power generation found in Gung Zi. I also think it contains a great deal of food for thought in exploring the fighting strategies of Hung in both general terms and specific techniques. I like it more than the Gung Zi partner set.
2) Weapons - Ng Lang Baat Gwaa Gun, Zi Mou Dou, Gim
- NLBGG for all the reasons previously mentioned.
- ZMD- I like these as a double weapon, which I think helps expand the use of both sides of the body. And at least with our family's version it also helps expand some of the study of the Cat Sing body mechanics and long arm stepping methods.
- My gim play still sucks but I love the weapon. I think studying blade work is vitally important in appreciating the danger of fighting. Actual cutting practice with a live blade also teaches focus (Cun) and penetration (Cyun) that carries over with barehanded techniques.
3) Hand Techs -
- my favorite technique would be the upper dotting of Cin Zi Sau - block the strike and hit them in the neck... it's just a good simple strategy that is uncomplicated and effective. Loads of vital points and delicate tissues there so accuracy or the best power generation is not necessary for efficacy.
- Black Tiger Claw Method - I like this for how it teaches to trap/trip in conjunction with stepping.
- Kup Ceoi - especially as an effective stepping back/off strike
4) Kicks -
- Sam Sing Ngau Taan Geuk/3 Star Hook Kick for all the same reasons above.
- Caan Geuk/Spade Kick -
- Low roundhouse - from my days of Kyokushin
- Cyun San Geuk/Heart Penetrating Kick - although I teach to keep it below the waist
5) Drills/Lin Gong
- Heavy weapons
- Rings
- Dummy/tree striking/saam sing - although they are obviously not the same thing
