Sport fighting is dangerous in my opinion as it does 3 things I that I think detract from the actual art it springs from. 1) It usually fills its participants with an inflated sense of their own fighting prowess as rarely can a "champion" actually hold their own in a street fight from what I have seen 2) The "safety" equipment is more than likely designed to allow fighters to fight more regularly (to fatten promoters wallets and receive more brain and internal injuries as a result... frankly in a real combat situation you just wouldnt hit someone as hard/in the same places ie the head, with out gloves as you would with them... your hands wont hold up... Ive tried) 3) When as in every event in life, eventually someone dies or is seriously hurt doing it, folks talk of the need to not fight in sporting arenas.

In a time of automatic pistols and sub-machine guns (not that everyone carries one in their purse/pocket, but they are around), fist fighting as a form of attack isnt actually very practical as an initial weapon (most real attackers/defenders will mow you down before you even get close... the rest just want your wallet and a rock of crack or something) but just as with my butcher knife in my kitchen, I sharpen it. There are the times when one must "cut meat" and when the time comes, I dont want to be caught with a dull blade. Fortunately I havent had to "cut meat" but twice since learning the art form, and I must say, the blade cut well...
