The words "where does Pek Kwa come from.....Pek Kwa of course" does it sound familiar?

So on the above rationale, the Malaysian Hung Kuen Pek Kwa Daan Do must therefore come from Taai Sing Pek Kwa, but the Malaysian form is older so how do you explain it?

And do me a favour I aint talking down to you...so return the courtesy.

I should perhaps amend my statement to the Pek kwar Tai Shing Darn Do which is practiced in the Lam lineage was added by Si-gung Lam Cho. It has seen severally different versions which all have common elements, but the one I posted and learned comes from Ken Tak Hoi. I do know that for fact.

As to the version other lineages have I stated, I not sure when or where it was added for each lineage. It is completely possible that it was learned from other sources. The common theme seems to be that most started it Lam Sai Wing era. Who knows, the documentation of most of this pre 20th century is not great. It is too bad that the elder which are longer with us never documented any of this stuff in detail.

does the malasian branch predate Lam Sai Wing or do they branch from them?

Also, to santaracks, I must say I appreciate your change in tone. Thank you for debating and adding to the convo. I do mean that and not being snarky.

According to Mark Houghton the Malaysian branch he first learned, was direct from Hung si-jo's first generation of students, some of whom fled Ching persecution and went to Malaysia. These first generation students
were taught the three year method Hung Gar, the breathing not sent to the dan tien etc (ten year method) and the forms were different Mang Fu Chut Dong etc, some of which Mark haa taught us on his visits to us over the years.

Does the Pek Kwar set Sifu Mark Houghton taught resemble the one I and Triple HHH posted?

Would be interesting to see if they are the same.

Brother Frank had a Daan Do thread years ago. A quick search yielded:

No the Malaysian Pek Kwa broadsword is totally different, no similarities in the two forms at all. The Malay form seems a bit longer, although to be honest I can barely remember it as it's been awhile since I tried to do it. Same with the Malaysian Hung version of Luk Dim Boon Gwun, I have major trouble recalling that one too.

how many sets called Mui Fa Kyun or Lo Hon Kyun we have out there? Northern, Southern, old, modern - same names, but totally different sets. commonly practiced Pek Gwa Daan Dou discussed here is called Pek Gwa Daan Dou becasue of being from Daai Sing Pek Gwa Mun.

Malaysian sabre set (which i have seen on numerous occassions - i have visited Ho sifu's school in Hong Kong couple of years ago) definitely does not come from Daai Sing Pek Gwa Mun, and if my memory serves me correctly, when i saw its the name in Chinese characters, the name was actually Baat Gwa Daan Dou (!!!), not Pek Gwa Daan Dou.

There is a video which shows the original sabre form of Tai Sing Pek Kwar ?
It would be interesting to see the differences

Strange....because Mark called it Pek Kwa Daan Do when he, and his (then) student Kevin Chan, taught it to us??
