I hope the kid bulks up a little bit as he goes along because even though the performance was pretty clean... I kept staring at his arms and thinking "a good healthy sneeze would probably snap those arms..."
If you can't hit hard, hit them where they're soft.

Does the butterfly palm the same in all HK lineages? and is this form the same in other styles, i.e. hungfut, chowga or others.

Thanks,

Find it a bit sad when people are talking in a demeaning way about a performers physique, i:e looks like a sneeze would snap his arms, Hung Gar isn't designed to give you rippling muscles-I personally think those schools that produce students with big pyhsiques are doing something wrong-I'm halfway thru my 2nd decade in Hung Kuen and I definitely dont have big muscles...good performance by the guy and I respect anyone who goes out and performs in public...coz I always hate doing it

I don't think it was really meant in a demeaning way, it's just that he's just a baby, and hasn't developed yet.
(Now, for my demeaning comment...)
I would like to see him in a few years, when his structure, intent, and connection develop.
I sometimes get upset when people teach little children, who are obviously beginners in the system, a more advanced set.
Sure, he memorized all the sequences, but it's played like a little child, without any development in the system.
Sure it's cute an'all...but, I would rather see him do a less sophisticated set, consisting of basic movements. It would be better for his development, and it would look better as well.
Of course, this is just my opinion, and it is somewhat biased from a few decades of judging in competitions, so don't pay any attention to the grumblings of an old man.

Popsjnr... I understand what you mean. Props to the little guy. He shows some good stances and quick movement. It would be great to see a student like that as he matures.

I agree with Ten Tigers as well. For a while, I pretty much focused on teaching kids (no adults stuck with my workout... and the kids classes payed OK) and when I taught them forms, I stuck to less difficult sequences. I also tried to get them to develop a "sense of enemy" and visualize where their opponent was coming from with the next move (based on basic applications... nothing fancy, but actual techniques). I would encourage them to be alert and keep their eyes where the next attack was coming from. Our little friend in the video has something of a blank stare going on.

All-in-all, though... I wish I had started training as early as this kid has. Good show!
