Save for one caveat: The same things can also bog a person down and be their undoing. So the longer you practice, the more simple you are in application. Nothing throws a bigger monkey wrench into the engine of a "Theory Get Together" than sudden visceral application. Then you see what REALLY works and what is talk.

That is, unless it's a get together of all old dudes, then you have to take their word for it.

Well, can't relate to the RP stuff, although does wearing a toy army helmet and storming the hill in my backyard count?
Back to epiphanies..Some thoughts:
you really need to touch hands with your Sifu/Hing Dai on a regular basis, and they will come more often-sometimes more than you want. Then you need time away to absorb, mull things over...then another ah-ha moment comes....
It's weird, but often, I make jumps when I take time away from my Sifu. Then I come back and make another breakthrough.
"You need to THINK about it." My Sifu often says.
Too often we get used to being spoonfed and stop thinking for ourselves. When you take a step back, and really start to think about your technique, you often make wonderful discoveries.
