A friend sent me a link to this guy on youtube. He has several videos up but these two are specifically about Hung Kuen (still rebelling against that 'y').
My biggest qualm, outside of these videos, is that he claims to know over 400 empty hand and weapon forms. The minimalist within me is shocked and a bit sceptical. I think he also claims to be some sort of Taoist priest who came by his skills through... less conventional and more mythological methods.

Lol, sometimes the simplest explanations prove true.

Hi guys,
(i wathced only the fu hok video, because i do not know tid sin yet, so why bother)
i don´t like how(!) he does the movements, (As far as i can see he doesn´t use the hung kuen principles good or at all), but i think some of the Application are basically ok / good.

I'll be honest... kudos if you guys actually watched the entire clip (either of them). I couldn't bring myself to finish. Consider yourselves involuntary product testers.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but when I learned the Iron Wire set, I was told to forget about "application" because, despite some of the movements within the form having feasible applications, the set is predominantly meant for power building. Any movements within Iron Wire that seem to have applications are better illustrated in the other pillar sets/supplemental forms of the curriculum.

This guy is causing a ruckus at the "other" forum with his videos, but I'd rather discussed this here with you guys.
As martial artist, any one of us can take another style and come up with martial applications. But as many of you have stated, what makes us Hung Ga practitioners is HOW we apply those same applications. I cannot apply Bagua/Xingyi, Tai Chi, Mantis, Eagle Claw, etc. applications the same way they can, but I can decipher what they are doing on a basic level, and apply it with Hung Kuen principles.
That said, the Fu Hok apps are basic, sometimes wrong, especially punching over a taller person who is punching at you. I'd rather parry and come up from underneath with either a whipping Chop Chuy or Rising Water Punch. Otherwise you can get tangled up trying to Ping Choy over a taller person's arm.
Iron Wire apps are off. The turning-to-the-side and using both Kiu Saus as a part of a technique would generate no power. If I was going to use the Kiu Sau in this sequence, I would trap his arm with one hand and use the other, not as a Kiu Sau, but as a Palm strike instead, this way I can root my striking power.
The poster simplifies what we train into just moves and that's his prerogative, but that's why we know training Hung Kuen is a treasure and that is why we do it the right way
