Hello everybody. I was in a sparring match recently, and we don't use any gloves or anything, so naturally grabbing techniques can be applied. My question is this. How do you train yourself to be able to use techniques like for instance, double tiger claw, while trying to avoid your opponent as he is throwing his body at you? I mean, I just can't seem make my mind move that quickly to be able to grab arm or even pin it and then proceed to palm strike. I can do it if we both start like a normal fight would start you know, just standing there then a sucker punch thrown, no matter how fast they punch, but as soon as we both start moving, I am completely devoid of any skill in this area.

Any thoughts on how this should be done or trained? If I don't make sense, please let me know and I will try my best to re-explain it. Thank you for any and all comments.

pak-da-the double Tiger claw (one hand follows the other near the elbow)as seen in Moi-Fa and other forms can be played as pak-da, meaning the front hand strikes as the rear hand pak's the opponent's strike.


phon-sao, is a hand exchange technique. If it is a jab, you catch or parry , or pak the jab, the other hand "trades" for the check at the elbow, forearm,upper arm, and the first hand strikes. You can then cover, press, trap etc.
lop-sao accomplishes the same thing. You can deflect or jam your opponent's strike, then grab and roll over into your strike. after that, trap, etc.
Many of the techniques in Hung-Ga need to be set up, or have entries, and are not meant as stand-alone techniques-especially in the case of quicker strikes such as the jab.
