Yu Ga daai pa

Do you have historical or biographical information on when this set was incorporated in the system and by whom?
Do you hane any information about the Yu family?

I have no solid evidence and have heard very little about the subject, hopefully someone with more information can contribute. What I have heard is that many tiger fork techniques were developed by the Yiu family, a farming family from Guangxi. Apparently this set, and many similar sets are used by multiple southern systems, however I have only seen a few outside of our style. If I had to guess, the set was most likely incorporated by Wong Fei Hung, as most major branches practice it.

There was a discussion about this weapon years ago and in brief the name of the weapon set does not jive with it coming from a farming family.

Generally civil/farming martial artists tend to be descriptive of their weapons while the military used classifications.

example:

Yu Ga Dai Pa =Yu Family Big Post/Pole

This is more descriptive of a Military Classification so perhaps a Yu Family member was from a military background.

a term like "Fu Cha" = Tiger Fork is more descriptive in its actual usage etc.

But research into Tiger hunters show that Forks were not the only weapons used to hunt them. So perhaps the term Dai Pa is correct afterall as a general classification

I think this just provided more questions and confusion.....
