Hi all,
Does you kwoon have a Hung Kuen Code of Conduct passed down through your lineage? If so, what are the rules? If not, would you consider making one up for your kwoon?
For example, Sifu Wing Lam states in his book, Southern Shaolin Kung Fu Ling Nam Hung Gar, page 20: "Faced with students from diverse social backgrounds, Hung Gar masters of previous generations created the following set of rules for good martial conduct:
1. Respect your teacher and the art.
2. Train hard and appreciate the knowledge being passed to you.
3. Do not trick, cheat, or harm others. Always present yourself in an orderly fashion.
4. Do not swing your fist in front of, or insult, your elders or seniors.
5. Do not laugh aloud without reason. Do not fabricate stories and do not cause problems.
6. Do not pick on the young or the weak. Do not take revenge for personal gain. Do not use your martial arts skills to exact revenge.
7. Do not point at people while talking, and do not talk or act loudly.
8. Do not sit in an impolite manner. Do not swear.
9. Do not spread rumors or talk behind anyone's back. Do not harass the weak and show favor to the strong.
10. Do not be greedy or steal from others.
11. Talk softly, but do not be afraid to ask questions.
12. Control yourself and be agreeable to the majority. Help people and do good things."
Thanks for your valuable input.
