So I fractured my wrist a while back. The outer-most Proximal Carpal(pinky side of the hand), just above the ulna. It is very slow to heal. In fact, it got better, then reagrivated.

Western Doctors just say wear a brace and put ice on it. I have been in for acupuncture on it. I think more than anything it's going to take time. Any suggestions on treatment or movements i can do to speed its recovery?

I use Dit Da Jow whenever i train, and Tendon lotion if it hurts outside of class. I am going to go to Chinatown and get the ingredients for an Herbal cast which should tighten the tendons and strengthen the area.

It sounds to me like you have more than a simple fracture, but damage to the tendons/ligaments, and on top of that, there are many bones in that area,which means it is a complex structure,hence, a complex injury. Bones heal rather quickly, but tendons take a long, long time. Especially in an area that requires alot of movement. Tendon lotion, which (should be) a dit da jow with herbs that nourish and strengthen the tendon and bone should be used in conjunction with massage, and gradual light strengthening and mobility exercises. The key word are gradual, and light. Don't get overzealous, as you can prolong your healing time, or cause worse injury. I would suggest you look up Tom Bisio-Zheng Gu Tui na, and get a consultation. Tom is not only a great healer, but he is a martial artist, and recognizes the injuries and the temperment of martial artists! Oh yeah, and he speaks English, which is a bonus.

I was just to do my usual, recommends Tom Bisio's book(s), but TT seems to take over my role of doing just that, haha.

HFF,

When did you originally break it? Do you How long were you in a cast? How long has it been out of a cast? What have you been doing in terms of exercise? Can you describe your pain symptoms with more detail? sharp, dull, electric pain, etc. any swelling? how's your range of motion? grip strength? what specific motions hurt (grip, wrist extension, wrist flexion, rotation, ulnar deviation, etc)... lots of questions before I could suggest what to do next.

Dit da is great and all, but if you use the wrong stuff it can slow down the process. If you just want "general" advice take TT's and go see Tom. He'll ask you all the same questions as above and have the benefit of actually being able to see and touch your wrist.

I'm glad to share my perspective and how I would "typically" treat this sort of thing but need more info before I will make any specific recommendations other than going to see someone in person.

I broke my wrist a few years back in a street fight. I found that regular wrist wrist rotations up down left circular right circular side to side along with an excercise of opening your hands fully and clenching into a fist like 400 times a day made my wrist much stronger and the pain has gone away. Also keep up with the jiao massages and most importantly of all if you do your breathing excercises correctly tight hands slow breathing slow motions it'll fix itself pretty quickly maybe a month or two? Every winter my wrist acts up a bit and all i do is increase the amount of breaking i do and viola its better.
