Wong Mankai, a disciple of Lam Saiwing, wrote a short essay about "Tiger and Crane". he writes that fu hok seung yin kyun was developed by Wong Feihung.

i am sure that if it was Lam Saiwing who has composed the set, his disciples would give credit to him for doing so. Lam Saiwing was the one who popularised the set (and supposedly modified a bit), especially after the book on "tiger and crane", written by his other disciples, was published.

i have seen many "tiger and crane", but i am almost sure that they go back to Lam Saiwing or Wong Feihung. i have not seen any pre-Wong Feihung "tiger and crane" so far (except Wong Kiew Kit sifu's, which comes from a completely different lineage of Southern Siulam). anyway, any reliable info about pre-Wong Feihung fhsyk appreciated!

Can you explain what is "3 and 10 year method Hung Kuen"? I've never heard these terms before...Thanks.

According to my teacher Jim Uglow, a student of Chan Hon Chung, to train patriots to fight the Ching government Gee Sin shortened the time it took by introducing breathing from the chest instead of dan tien, hence it was possible to ready fighters in 3 years instead of the usual 10 years. Hung Hei Goon's 1st generation of students were taught this method, along with forms like Mang Fu Chut Dong etc (Gung Gee wasn't taught to these students) and this 3 year method went out to Malaysia where it is still taught. Hung si-jo's later disciples were taught the full 10 year system, Luk Ah Choy foremost among them. My unofficial si-baak (a very close friend of my si-fu) Mark Houghton taught us a few of these Malaysian Hung forms in 2002 (Mang Fu Chut Dong, Wun Sing Fuk Fu Kuen etc) and the breathing comes from the chest and it's a lot faster to learn these techniques that way but it's not good for your health that's why Hung si-jo reverted to dan tien breathing
