18,
These are two sets of our curriculum. Gam Gong Fuk Moh Kyun - Diamond Taming Demon Boxing, is also known as Gam Gong Fuk Fu Kyun or Daai Lik Gam Gong Kyun, within our family. Just different names for the same set. We use it as a beginner's set due to the relatively simple and short pattern and use of hard power. The set teaches the use of knees and elbows.

Fa Kyun is one of the sub-systems of our family. We have three sets. I have seen them quite a few times and discussed them with my teacher but do not train them myself. The fa kyun system focuses on fluidity of movement and uses the ng hang/five elements heavily.

Regards,
Justin

The first clip is a small section from the first of our siu lam weng chun kyun. We have three sets within this sub-system. This is cheung duen kyun, Long Short Fist.

The second clip is a mix from when Evert was invited to Malaysia by Eric Ling. The first short clip is part of our second Lau Ga fist form. This is a completely different set than the Lau Ga Palm as taught in the Chiu Family.

I'm not sure what the second clip of Evert and Cheong Sifu is. Clearly having some discussion about concepts and which part of the bridge is making contact. I wasn't there so can't comment on it.

Next we have short clip from our Tit Sin Kyun.

And finally part of the opening of our Gau Ng Ying Kyun, Old Five Animals set.

Nico nimwegen,

These are certainly some interesting old clips you seem to have found. I am a student of Evert van der Meulen and will be glad to answer any specific questions you might have.

Out of curiosity, how did you come across this footage without being a student of either Klaas or Evert?

Regards,
Justin

Hi Justin,

I wondered which names (the beautiful names at the weito website) belong to which forms in the video.
Besides I wonder if the teachers perform anything in these clips.

As for your question on how I got this video. I learn Hung Kuen in New York and got it from a friend here. I believe it came from an US student of your sifu.

Nico

Nico from Nijmegan,

As I said I am glad to answer any specific questions you might have about these forms or our lineage.

I am the only student of Evert in the US and can assure you the video did not come from me. As a matter of fact I am glad to see the clips as it is not footage that my teacher had. That said, there are not many other people who would have had access to these clips and I am quite certain nobody in NY would.

Who is your friend? What family do you study with? Pardon my blunt questions but I'm not interested in engaging in issues from the past and do not want to see them show up on this forum. PM has done a great job in keeping lineage issues off the board. I am more than happy to answer sincere or even blunt questions from anyone but am somewhat suspicious about someone showing up with rather unique footage claiming to have received it from a friend in NY when I know that to be extremely unlikely at best...

This video was made under my direction 16 years ago.

The demonstrations shown on these tapes were a cooperation of my school (Padberg Academy) with Wei To Arnhem of Evert van der Meulen.
I started teaching Hung Gar in the municipality of Ermelo in 1993, just less then a year, when this performance was done. Skills of the students were average. Looking back at these vids after such a long time I clearly see that things have changed for the better in 2010.

In the film you see some people that now teach the art of Hung Gar. In the first film you see:
Sifu Hans Huisman, Deventer, with Taming Tiger Set.
Sifu Charris van 't Slot, Utrecht, with Lau Gar Fist.
Sifu Raimundo Rodrigues, Putten, with Mok Gar Knife.

The forms that are shown on these vids come from my late Sifu Lai Ng Sam, who passed away in China 1995. He was an extraordinary Sifu, skilled in many southern systems. The Hung Gar skills were thaught to him by GM Chiu Kau, and made up much of his curriculum. He named his style Nam Siu Lam Hung Kuen.

Although the system that I teach is embedded in the Chiu Family Hung Gar, I still teach additional sets of my Sifu Lai Ng Sam.

Kind regards,
Klaas Padberg Evenboer.

Mui Fa Kyun

Postby JE » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:23 pm

The clip above is extracted from a video made at a seminar Evert gave in the early 90's on Mui Fa Kyun. The video was made so participants would have footage to reference the movements of the form. The nature of each element (hang) and animal (jing) is not emphasized in the footage. The seminar covered a very basic introduction to the skills presented within the set: striking (da), kicking (tek), throwing (seoi), grasping (kam naa), and vital points (dim jyut).

Mui Fa Kyun in our lineage is obviously a very different form than that within the Lam Sai Wing lineages outside of the obvious sap zi pattern. It is typically taught after Fu Hoc as the speed of the form makes it difficult to properly play each of the animal/elemental skills. Although it's short and easy to remember I find this to be one of the more challenging sets for that reason. All five animals and elements are supposed to be presented.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions...
