hello to all,
as i have received the book today, i simply have to write a short review.
i am very critical as for the articles, books and other written materials. unfortunatelly, most of the stuff out there is either 100 times repeated nonsense or made up stories. we lack trustworthy and reliable materials, especially translations of some of the classical texts (books and articles by Jyu Yujai, Nim Fatsaan yan, Ngo si Saan yan, Dang Fong, Ho Laptin... ). we all saw the attempt to translate he 3 classical books on gjffk, fhsyk and tsk, both Jyu Yujai's Leung Daat's - imho not very succefull.
well, fortunately, this is going to change! this book seems to be first of its kind, and hopefully not the last one. it has everything i wished there to be:
- excellent and enhanced quality scan of the original
- translation by team consisting of native Cantonese speaker and team of Hung Kyun experts and practitioners
- commentary
- Chinese characters and index of Yale/Pinyin romanisation
the texts are very interesting for all of us Hung Kyun history researchers - extensive biography of Lam Saiwing, extensive text on Lam Saiwing by Nim Fatsaan Yan, biographies of many of the Lam Saiwing's students, texts on gung ji fuk fu kyun, fu hok seung ying kyun, tit sin kyun, Geuchung dou (double knives), baat gwa gwan... all together A LOT OF information and plenty of details i have never heard of before
thanx to Charris and his team, who spend more than two years working hard on the book (and kept teasing me for so long). the waiting was worth it! a big motivation to work harder on my Conceise Encyclopedy of Hung Kyun ( http://www.hungkyun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=151 ), and hopefully a new standard for forthcoming books on our beloved art.

Indeed it has been hard work. I'm glad I can have some rest now it's finished, because I can't almost see the book anymore

Since I had several questions about the exact content, I've only following to say:
The translation covers most of the original book, but not everything.
For example, all advertisements have been left out, as I don’t think these companies exist anymore.
Also, the original includes a chapter with the line drawings of LSW and descriptions of the movements from the Fu Hok book by Jyu Yu Jaai. This is not included in the translation either. Initially, the first reason for this was that there were some translations already, and there were several people saying they or others were working on translations of the Fu Hok book.
Furhtermore, the texts beside the line drawings in the Memorial Book only are the first half of each text of Jyu’s book. (See sample below, to compare to your book of Jyu).
If we (I and my wife) ever were to translate Fu Hok, I prefer to translate the complete version of Jyu’s book, with the complete texts and with the extended foreword/introduction. I'm not saying we are working on it now though, but it might be an interesting future project.
Things the translation DOES include are:
- Original foreword, bio of Lam Sai Wing, Lam Cho, Lau Cham, Lam Chi Sat, Wong Man Kai, Lee Cheung Tak, Wong Moon Toy, Wong Lung Fei, Fong Wing Cheung, Lee Sham, Wong Lee, Poon Kwai Yat, Wong Lai Wan, Kei Yeun Wa, Cheung Si Biu, Luk Keng Wing, Ho Ping Yeun, Ho Yip Chau, Cheung Yuk Ma, Ma Wing Chi, Cheung Kim Kwong, Mo Gang, Ng Lim, Wong Kwai Chung
