there are quite long sections from the pek gwa daan dou, imho quite common, not only in Hung Kyun.

Dang, is it seriously pek gwa daan dao? Could have sworn it wasn't pek gwa, now I'll have to go back and watch the scene, haha.

If it is pek gwa daan dao, I feel stupid for asking, haha.

not all of it, but most of it. the rest are either parts of a different set (also clearly norhern origin), or just variations of pek gwa daan dou. Lau Galeung sifu has a vast experience with all kinds of weapons and all kinds of gf.

btw., i personally like the Southern "commander's sabre" (daan ji fai dou) more. it does not look so good (it is basically all repetition), it is god damned long set, but it fits more to the osuthern Hung kyun weapon curriculum

I thought it looked similar to a mui fa daan dao, and not really pek gwa daan dao. I need to go back and cross reference the similar parts now...

I never learned Ji Fai Dao, and I've only seen bits and pieces of it, but there were some pretty decent moves in it. I do remember it looking quite repetitive.

yeah, exactly, but anyway, how many moves we need for fencing/knife fighting? we train different drills from daan ji fai dou with rubber knives, it is fun

I agree, you don't need much at all. Between methods I've taken from dao, gim, and seung bei sau, we've formed a pretty formidable knife syllabus. I've always felt that with many CMA schools, knifework has been a type of "achilles heel."

exactly. i have always been the knife guy, always having my Fairbairn-Applegate Covert from Gerber with me. drills from daan ji fai dou and daai hang yut seung dou with a single knife (and friends from Filipino systems), that is what i like
