My training brother, Matthew Blazon Yee, drills the full contact fighters on the basics - jab, cross, uppercut, hooks. He adds:
- cover/strike - meaning you block a strike and return a strike
- Strike, move to the side and strike again (usually a hook) as you move
- bob and weave
- push off (sometimes its the only thing to do) and move
- putting your body into the strike so that every strike has power
Most importantly, he works them to death on cardio and endurance!!!
This is just a basic outline, and the training usually is dictated by the rules of the tournament. Some don't allow elbows or knees, some don't allow sweeps to the backfoot, some don't allow throws, etc.
