Well, it has to feel good "just to get out there and do it", and know that you are representing well in furthering intercultural awareness and traditional martial arts!
If I may relate a story in a similar vein, one time there was an older classmate giving a couple of pointers to a younger classmate regarding proper handling of the
Gwan. The elder's main point, keeping the proximal end of the
Gwan in close contact with the body during most any operation...
After pumping the
Gwan about in vigorous fashion several times or so (to demonstrate just how it improved his power and control), all the while saying, "Like THIS...like THIS...", finally the younger student flatly stated, "but I can't!"
"You can't? Why not?" came the answer...
"Because I don't have..." replied the younger student, glancing apologetically down at his own mid-section (or lack thereof), which, compared to the mighty tum that the senior had to boast (and implying that a weighty middle was somehow prerequisite to proper
Gwansmanship), made the entire business quite ridiculous indeed!
Best,
Michael
