hello guys,

what is your approach to this phase of combat? do you train any of the many versions of clinch in your application drills? how is your approach to the clinch different from the clinch in eg Muay Thai, wrestling or MMA? what counters gaianst the clinch do you drill? if you train clinch, what techniques, tactics and startegies do you train? in sum: your Hung kyun and the clinch!

this is where your short power,such as bicep pops, shoulder strikes and elbows using short power come into play, as well as cum na sao, and seut gohk-locking the neck, shoulder, legs,waist,etc.
Mang Fu Toi San is a perfect example of a leg hook and pushing throw, and it is right out of FHSYK.
Waist locking takedowns, similar to BJJ's faves, is in our gum gin sao faht, which shows up in the Dragon section of Ng Ying Kuen.
-of course, we can debate the chicken or the egg-it can be applications of your forms, or you can find techniques and then realize (or claim)that the identical movements are in the forms, whether or not that was the original intention-who knows? Who cares! Some may say no, but I simply say, "Well, it's in MY Hung Kuen." Is it going aginst "tradition?" I don't see it that way. I see it as evolution. If fighters were facing more grapplers, they would've adapted, just as we are now.

Ah ok, some of them I had in mind also. But these techniques aren't really meant for continuous holding, right? I mean, guide horse to stables, damage the elbow and then you followup immediately instead of keep holding onto the arm of the enemy, same seems to be for the others shown. In my mind clinch means grab & hold, maybe choke, but no results right away.

Things like popaisao, guide horse to stables etc. seems to be meant to have an immediate effect which IMO does not seem to fit the definition of a clinch.

But maybe that is why you said '... but not the way Thai guys do it'?

chin na vs. clinch, seems to be two entirely different things. I might simply understand it all wrong of course. Thank you for your patience

i have most of the Shredder DVDs for quite long time, cool stuff, one of the RBSD systems i watch and like.

(buuut, one small note: one of my exstudent had a fight with a junkie - he teared his ears, gouged in the eyes, and the guy still went on, crazy)
