ok--I need to clarify before I go further because I don't want to piss off any Hung folks.

First..I've noticed that Hung Kuen people as a whole tend to more level headed..at least compared to Wing Chunners. Maybe it's all the horse stances?

OK..So back to my post. I notice that in certai forms..such as Fu-Hok..some of the movements such as the opening ones after the salute resemble some WC moves such as Pak Sao/Tan Sao,etc.

So..theres that similarity in terms of arm motions and lets just say for arguments sake..that HG could conceptually share that with a "short range" system.

On the other hand..When I look at CLF moves(the Doc Fai Wong 5 animal video comes to mind)..HG seems to share other things in commmon with a "long range" style such as some longer arm movements (in mantis we call it "fan che" which is more of like a simultaneous windmill move with the arms) and the "Ping Choy" and "Yat Ti Choy".

So..could it be that when one considers the spectrum of "Southern Fist" from short,medium and long range..could it be said that HG is in some ways having an identity with/foot in both WC and CLF?

yes, exactly as Chunyat wrote.

it is the left handed part of ng long baat gwa gwan - it was not in the original set which has 64 "points" (64 hexagrams). Lam Saiwing's set has 70,5 "points".

the name of the "set withing the set" is jo gwan baan jung luk dim bun gwan - "left handed opera troups six and half point long pole". i teach it long before the whole ng long baat gwa gwan, together with "arrow palm" and the knives. these three sets are kind of subsystem of our system, Lam family Siulam kyun. all are from the ancestors of Lam Saiwing (ie. not from Wong Feihung) and all are Siulam Jing Jung, "Orthodox Siulam". sometimes i do not start with gjffk, but teach the students these three sets, system of its own (on of my students from Sweden learnt just these three from me). check our curriculum at http://www.lghk.org/en/curriculum/index.htm

Wow, that's exactly what my Sifu told me when I Dim Sum with him a few weeks ago. I asked him what the difference was between our Batgwa Gwun and the ones that other styles practice, and he told my training brother and myself that we have an extra 6.5, and that the original had 8x8=64 points. So 64 plus the extra 6.5 comes to exactly 70.5 points for us! =)

I didn't know there was a name for the set within the pole form though. I thought that your 6.5 pole form was a completely different set when I saw it in your curriculum list. That's cool that you teach those 3 sets as a sub system. My Sifu told me that our Sigung Wong Lei sometimes considered Batgwa Gwun, Titsin Kuen, Ye Fu and Chut Lam as one curriculum.

I wish I could read Chinese, cause there's a lot of good stuff in the memorial book that I want to know.
