It's so hard to find good traditional kung fu lion dance nowadays. I love how Master Yee plays the drum, you can just tell that he's definitely a kung fu master the way he plays.

To me, most drumming seems fast and random. No disrespect intended, its just the way it sounds to me. At my school, my sifu has took that drumming system and created distinct drum patterns for us to play during lion dance shows. It is made directly from Sifu Yee's drummng, because my sifu studies under yee for many years. It has more structure and beat patterns while still staying with the 3/3 rhythm that lion dance drumming uses.
If TT stops in on this thread, i think he can tell us more about Sifu mike's drumming from many years ago before they created the newer beats.
here are some examples from our video last year. the video is cut up so the drumming jumps around, but you can hear the way we do it.

Yes Ican attest to the difficulties of the Cymbal and Gong Players.
I was started in the Gong Position and while moved up to other positions of Cymbala nd Drum - the Gong is one of the hardest because you don't lead and have to follow. Eye and Ears on the Drummer at all times.
You can know that a Lion Dance Group is A+ when the drum silences all the instruments are silent..............
