Techniques against..........Hung Kuen

The previous topic was "Techniques against TKD". For a little introspection...

Trying to look at it the other way as objectively as possible  , what suggestions would you have for a non-Hung Kuen practitioner *facing a Hung Kuen practitioner (besides running away  )?

*For combative situations, not for sport.

If I remember well CLF has a technique especially to counter (a specific technique?) Hung Kuen.

interesting topic!

as for the attack, we all know boxers would go: jab, jab, cross, hook, whatever; Muay Thai guys: jab, cross, lowkick whatever; BJJ guys: shin shide kick, close the distance, clinch, take down, whatever, thug just would go crazy and keep wild punching... my point is: how would the Hung Kyun guy attack, what is his typical game?

this is an interesting topic. a hard one. A topic like how to fight a TKD player is easier because we know their game, lots of kicks. For boxers, we know their game is punching. For hung gar, there is such a broad spectrum.

As PM said, what is a HG players game? Well that depends. We could come in with elements, big swinging strikes. Or, we could come in with more direct linear attacks. We can play a more aggressive or a more defensive game. Makes it very hard to predict.

So the direction i would go if i were a novice is to stay low, make sure that your stance is strong. Don't get knocked down and fall for our leg checks and sweeps.

Good topic. Not to dismiss the notion of this thread but of course the first thing i would think is fight the fighter not the style. But similarly if the opponent was hung ga (as with wing chun) i wouldn't go playing bridge games with him for sure. I guess, and this is purley hypothetical, i would cut his distance and range, try to disrupt/destroy his bridge/structure and utilize my sweep or knees. I dunno, hard to say with certainty. Every fight is so different with so many variables.
Sig Sauer works quite well too.

ok guys, but my point was: do most Hung Kyun players know how to attack? do most Hung Kyun players have a certain offensive game plan, tactic and strategy, as the exponents of other martial arts/sports have? or do they just say (say, not do): "dude, we can do basically everything" (which means that in 99% cases he has no idea; which means - my answer to the original question would be "do not worry, just slap the HK guy in the face like a kid or do basically anything/everything)

i do not want to hijack this interesting thread, nor to play devil's advocate, the sequence of thinking when i saw this thread was something like:

- how a HK guy attacks?
- than, how a HK guy counters the other MA/MS
- and finally, how to counter a HK guy?

we know our strong points - stances, waist, bridges, fists, claws... we should first answer how (and if) they are dangerous to our opponents, and then proceed to answering the other questions

I like how you guys have gone further to think about how a HKer would attack / counter-attack another HKer (i.e. how a HKer would strategize, set-up, initiate attacks, etc.). Keep going! :D

I won't speak for all Hung practitioners, but I have seen some patterns in the system at large.

Generally Hung guys are more comfortable:

counterattack vs. initial attack
having someone come into their space, instead of chasing an opponent that does not want to stay put
dealing with someone that has comitted to attacking, as opposed to someone that pecks away but doesnt try to drop any bombs or go for any throws

This doesn't mean we don't have answers to these things, but I would not call them our "specialization" so to speak, were I to pick one.

How do you all feel about using the retreating horse INTO the opponent (accompanied by posting your fist in their face), and either twisting into a punch combo or stepping back (like it was a deception) and heart kicking? I have used this in sparring to great success, but I don't know if it's because it truly works, or if using such a traditional combo just confuses the sparring opponent and won't work again.
