gjffk translation with commentary - sample
hello guys, here is a small sample of my gjffk translation with commentary. pardon my bad English
--------------------------------------------------
17. Step with the left, "suspend" right and pull it back
(cheut jo diu yau laai gwai hau 出左吊右拉歸後)
--------------------------------------------------
用左腳一出拉馬歸後身向右
將腳一起倘敵人用腳
打來我即用腳消之即腳上起腳之法
--------------------------------------------------
Use left leg to step and "pull the stance" (laai ma 拉馬) back. The body faces to the right. Lift the leg.
If the adversary uses a kick, i use the leg to counter it. This is the method of "lifting the leg" (seung hei geuk 上起腳).
--------------------------------------------------
- this is the beginning of the third section of the set. After the the stationary first and second section, which were meant to train the "bridges" and "stance", third section is concentrated on footwork and waist movement.
- "suspend" (diu 吊) means to step into "suspended leg stance" ((diu geuk ma 吊腳馬)
- (laai ma 拉馬) is one oft he common types of footwork in Hung Kyun - front leg retreats back. the opposite step is called (seung ma 上馬), "step forward"
- application is another example of typical Hung Kyun principle of defense (block the elbow with elbow, leg with leg etc., see eg. numbers 14, 23, 26, 62). The technique could be used eg. against a groin kick (as in the "taming of the tiger"/"tiger and crane"sparring sets), knee kick (in the Muay Thai like clinch), or as a knee kick to the thigh/groin.
- in the set, there is the inside variant of the leg block; of course, the outside variant could be also used, eg. against Muay Thai low kick or knee kick to the thigh
