Now I know what your thinking, PLENTY of techniques can be used against this style. I am fully well aware of this. The problem is the rules setting. No grabbing and no kicks below the belt. Also light contact. I don't want to spar using TKD. The only reason I am taking this class to begin with is that my college offers it, and it is a religion credit...SO WHY NOT?????
Any and all help would be nice. I am new to Hung Gar so I don't know many techniques. Like I said, any and ALL help will be highly appreciated.

Take downs allowed? Thats a fav. of mine against high kicks. Problem with TKD is often they just kick very fast, without any power (why should they, faster is better and you score anyway).

depending how advanced u are but imo best way to beat tkd is footwork...stick close to the opponent..so sticking body method would be my choice (tried that already)

as Franky said, stick close. Jam him. Don't let him use his preferred range, which is further and he can use his kicks. Rush him. Intercept his initial movement-before he can get his kicks out. Fight your fight, not his. Take his tools away from him. Don't allow him to kick. If you stand at his range, you will end up trying to block his kicks, and you will be playing his fight.
Ten Tigers' Motto:
"When your opponent moves in-you move in.
when your opponent moves out-you move in.
when your opponent stands still, you move in."

Asmo: Take downs aren't allowed. I forgot to mention that. Sorry.
FL & TT: Thats what I thinking about. Since you used it and it seemed to work, thats what I will use. Oh, and TT, LOVE THAT MOTTO!!!!
Thank you for all comments. More would be well appreciated.

In my opinion, since you are taking a TKD class... go in there and learn what you can from them. Empty your cup for a few minutes a day and maybe you can pick up something useful.
If you go in there with the attitude of showing them that your style is better or you are not there to learn... then you are wasting your time.
Besides... once you learn what they have to offer, and actually try it out a little bit, you will have a much better idea of how to counter it.

I agree with Mark-I read your post too fast and didn't realize you were taking a class. I thought you were sparring a friend who does TKD,
By all means, empty your cup and learn what they know. They know how to kick, and they know how to counter their kicks. Be a sponge and absorb everything you can.

I know guys. I am willing to well...empty my cup. I just don't want to learn to fight that way. Thats all. I want to keep rooted stances and the like, without jumping around, and I want to fight using REAL kung fu. I do however know that their kicks are extraordinary. Thank you for the comments once more. I promise I will learn from them as much as I can.
