Just reading and sometimes watching some videos I am perplexed about the number of styles and the most reknown lineages that I have hard time to find some common sense in some of the forms although some very similar. Can some one tell me the difference between Canton (guanzhou), Hong Kong and southern villages Hung Ka and the flavor differences? I know is a broad question but I would like to have some idea to understand both the history and today Hung Ka around the world.

I train Taiwanese and Cantonese (Lam family type) HG, so I can tell you about the differences between those. Cantonese HG tends to be shorter range and it is easier to see how the movements are applicable in fighting. Taiwanese emphasizes all five animals (each has its own set), so the leopard, snake and dragon show up more. Taiwanese horse stance is just a little bit wider, as are some of the bridge hand moves. There are a ton of little differences in structure and posture, but you would really have to know what you are looking for to notice them.
