Rings?

I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but what is the point of the rings smashing into the back of the thumb? I mean when you throw punches and the like?

LOL When I train with the rings, it cuts me, and bruises me there. If this is bad then tell me. If it is conditioning me, I want to know the purpose of that conditioning. I love using the rings, I just want to know the purpose of that.

Again, I apologize if this is touched on before.

Maybe... the point is toughening the back of your thumb(?) :)

If you try a few sao choys against a heavy bag, you'll see quickly enough what the point is. You won't always be hitting things with a forearm. Especially when someone else is moving/blocking.

Also, IMO this ties-in to the 1 finger kiu-sau. No matter if you use one finger alone or 4/5, there is always a need when pulling back with the bridge to toughening up that part of the hand.

LOL!!! Nice

Excuse me, but what is a sao choy? I am not used to hearing these kind of words.

Also, could you explain the last part? I am lost..yet again. Sorry, but again, I am a very new person to this style.

Here ya go...

1st movement is a sao-choy. The rest of the vid will give you more context. in this case from Choy Lay Fut.

For the 2nd question you'll have to figure it out for yourself. If you are learning Hung Ga kuen it'll become obvious soon enough.

So its like a wrapping punch, just different point of contact on the arm?
Thank you by the way.

Are you talking about when you are doing the exercise and you are bringing the arm back in so you can push it out again?
