OK i have a bit of a noob question and was wondering if anyone on here could perhaps help me out. The question is concerning the 5 animals of Hung Gar which are snake, leopard, dragon, tiger and crane. Are there different variations of these 5 particular animals within the different Hung Ga Kuen lineages?
Many thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Those are the 5 commonly accepted animals of the Hung lineages. But if you take a closer look at Hung Kuen there are traces from other animals as well. See for example the crane thread a few days ago. With the import from White Crane actually some ape techniques entered Hung Kuen as well. But there are other techniques as well
See below an article form my archive (please download if you want to keep it, I'll remove it from my server eventually again).

Hi Hung Kuen Shaolin,
I think you mean the animals as done in your line compared to other Hung Kuen.
The version you do is quite different. It's rather a derivation of the main stream Hung Kuen (the most commonly known Hung Ga comes from the line Lam Sai Wing and it's all kind of the same - at least reckognisable).
Your version actually comes from Lam Sai Wing, then his student Song Siu Bo (or something - I'm sure someone in the forum will know exactly), and several others in the line. In time in your line the animals were separated and also changed completely compared to Lam Sai Wing version.
Of course Hung Kuen is a common name and there are many versions, which can all be quite different. This is because kungfu changes/developes differently.
Just in general if you search Hung Kuen or Hung Ga, you will only find Lam Sai Wing's version - only because this one is the most spread.
There are several more or less closer version of Lam Sai Wing's Hung Kuen in the UK. If you really want to know more, I suggest you visit them to see how they move compared to your version, how they do applications compared to your version and so on.
Just some clips in the internet don't really tell much.
