Just received this as a present from my Brother in France:


The shooting star boxing of the Shaolin Hung's Pugilism by Ho Lap tin





Does anybody know the history of this set? I'm not familiar with it at all, but it's all Hung kyun - bits of gung gi, fu hok, mui fa, just different sequences. surprisingly long at 85 moves, but all good stuff.

one of the best books on Hung Kyun out there - simple but not simplistic, useful fist techniques, nice photos of Grandmaster Ho Laptin, clear description of the techniques, combos and bin fa "changes"; one of my favourites. i would love to see it in action

Maybe in the near future I can do a vid and stream it on the web. I first need to get my stamina back. I've been busy with film school for the past four years and was unable to maintain my training routine so I'm a bit out of shape at this point.

I've never asked my sifu why Sigung created this set but I believe it was because of his previous training in Hop Gar/Lama Pai which is said to have it's own shooting star boxing set.

That's my own take on it. Because I know that my Sigung study Hop Ga/Lama Pai prior to meeting Tang Fong. I also was told that the shooting star sets was a part of the Hop Ga/Lama Pai system. So I just came to my own conclusion that his calling the set "Shooting Star Boxing" was relative to his prior training.

Maybe one day when Sifu is in a good mood and don't mind talking, I can sneak in the question to find the real answer.

good luck. Took me along time to get the knowlege I obtained from my Sifu. And that was when he was in a good mood and I wasn't being suspended from the school (3 times total)

One thing Ive noticed in studying from traditional Chinese teachers, never show them info you obtained from another source. It really hurts you chances of getting new info as they feel a lack of loyalty and such. Oh well can't have everything in this life
