How effective is this style for real world fighting withing the five animal set style?

The truth is all forms can be practically if you apply them correctly. In some styles and also some branches of hung gar dragon is played "soft" or internally which may mean less "practial" applications although i understand my branch of hung gar (lau family) plays it externally of "hard".
I may be wrong on this point, i'm only beginning myself but i did check this out myself. hope it helps

i'm not going to get started on the whole internal/external labels. i'm not a fan of them. I think they are way over used, and people in the Martial world have different points of view as to what the labels actually mean.

i'll just say that they are not mutually exclusive. There are times to play hard and times to play soft, and one is no more or less practical than the other. Lau family can certainly be played hard or soft, even if you learn it Hard.

I liked that video. I didn't know that horn of dragon thing...hmmm....looks useful. I like that application as well. I know TOO many people that do hay-makers.

The whole hard and soft thing still eludes me as to its meanings, but I guess I will come to understand it as I study it more.
