I am pretty much the same at the moment. I have started taking up on drumming this year as there are only 2 people (myself included) in my team that can drum (we have a break out team doing Hok San this year). My forearms have hardened a lot because of drumming, but that's probably due to my lack of technique in holding the drum sticks properly

This coming year, I would like to do more jumps / stacks, only problem is that the Hok San group needs to recruit lighter people. My current partner that I am lifting weighs 67 kg >_<

We are winding down-four shows left, and then we just got two calls for weddings. I will be foxusing on teaching drums to more students. I am tired of watching them have all the fun. I never get under the head anymore.
I did something a little different this year. Most of the resteraunts throw us a meal, which is a great way for the students to bond. When they don't, I treat them to a delicious meal at Fortune Wheel.
From now on, we don't call Chinese New year, "Lion Dance Season," we call it "Banquet Season" -this way, it brings a positive feel to all the hard work.
Years ago, when Lion Dancing for a former Sifu,(nod to Hung FF)there were only a few resteraunts that threw us a meal. The students would not be able to make many of the shows, but oddly enough, they were able to make the ones that had a meal,such as Imperial, or the place in Staten Island. I figure this way, everyone will want to Lion Dance, as it becomes a festive occaision.
It really doesn't take much out of my pocket to throw my students a few meals.

ya, imperial wok, Morgos, Ct shows still give us food. It's always a great meal. plus, we do Furtune wheel weekly. The season in general makes us all better as a group. sometimes tensions run high, but you spend all this time with your brothers and sisters, it's a lot of fun.



I learned the drums this year and am able to run/organise the shows. glad i can do that now.

haha I must admit I love the meals offered by restaurants too. I am so easily satisfied (especially I have just recently moved out of home), just give me food and I will be happy.
Our annual thing for Chinese New Year for small daytime performances usually end up with Parma and Pot at a local pub. GREAT TIMES!!!

not to hijack the thread, but, I just checked out Zong's Shanghai in Bethpage. The chef used to be at Joe's Shanghai in Flushing, so we figured the food would be just as good.
Forget it. The food was awful. The siu lung bao(soup dumplings) were nothing like Joe's Shanghai-which are filled with juice, and burst all over your spoon onto the plate! These had so little juice, they were hardly "soup dumplings"at all.
The Lion's Head meatball, which at Joe's is three huge pork meatballs cut in quarters on a bed of steamed cabbage (the mane)with a rich thick sauce poured over it-Zong's version was one mealy meatbal on some baby bok choy with a watery sauce.
We also ordered the roasted pork shoulder-which at Joe's is amazing-the meat falls from the bone. Zong's smelled like horshit. My dog liked it, however.
So far if yo want to eat real Chinese cuisene on Long Island, you need to go to Fortune Wheel, or Orient. And you need to go to Joe's Shanghai in Flushing, or in NYC

i went there for lunch a week or two ago. It was ok. agreed, no fortune wheel/orient.

rumor has it the head chefs of zhong's on bethpage, which was , get this, zhong, is longer with them, that could explain it-
