The last two sets are:

Double-Ended Stick Chaak

Single-Ended Stick Chaak

That was Gam Bok Yin/ Sifu Graham Player, therefore students of GM Chiu Wai (Hung Kyun).

:wink:

Best,

Michael

They are typical forms, but the sword I've never seen.
Does anyone know what's it called?

There was a long sword set I saw performed by some students of Lam Jo in one of my Sifu's archive videos but it does not resemble this. Perhaps it is an auxiliary set brought in from another style or the set is unique that school's lineage.

Whoever is in charge of that website might consider correcting a few things that look like errors. i.e. "KUNG CHI FOK FU KUEN - taming the tiger by means of the Chi energy"

It's either 伏虎工字拳 or 伏虎工氣拳. Either way, the explanation suggests that the writer mixed up a whole bunch of things.

"air" (aka energy) i.e. Ch'i Kung
ch'i4 = 氣
qi4 = 氣
hei3 = 氣
hei = 氣

"character" (aka letter)
tzu4 = 字
zi4 = 字
zi6 = 字
jih = 字

Also,

"extreme" i.e. T'ai Chi
chi1 = 極
ji1 = 極
gik6 = 極
gihk = 極

“hard work" i.e. Taming the tiger in the pattern of the symbol for "hard work"
kung1 = 工
gong1 = 工
gung1 = 工
gung = 工

”achievement" i.e. Kungfu!
kung1 = 功
gong1 = 功
gung1 = 功
gung = 功

Well, plenty of nice, clear Yale Roman at Gambokyin Sifu's website:

http://www.hkhunggar.com/bridges.htm

I'm sure he would know which sword that is!

:D

which leads me to this question...

When was Pek Kwar Do introduced into the Hung Gar system. Which lineages have it and who brought it in?

The Pek war darn do was brought in by Sigung Lam Cho. He was very good friends with Grandmaster Ken Tak Hoi. I know most of the teacher who stem from the Lam family teach it. Not sure exactly if other lineages use this set. But for the most those which stem from the Lam family have it.

I know my sifu learned both the sword and the hand set in the way Ken Tak Hoi teaches it. Sigung Lam Cho changed the set set slightly to more of hung kyun flavor. My sifu also make it a little shorter in some places also.

Here is the version I learned.

Many schools (styles, both Hung Kuen and other) "borrowed" the Saber set from the Pek Kwa style,
as it was famous when Ken Tak Hoi got to Hong Kong
(as well as by seminars in US and Canada by sifu Chan).

I've seen the set in Dragon Style and Choy Lei Fut as well.

That explains it. Thanks.Nice video BTW.

Another question, did Lum Jo also create the 2 man sets? (both weapon and hand) As I have seen them in different lineages too.
