Can we say,
Heung Ga Hung Kyun/ "Village Family
Hung Boxing"?
The term 鄉家/
Heung Ga/ "Village Family" has been used for many years by WFH lineage
Hung Kyun practitioners and others to distinguish what we do, from what others using nomenclature similar to ours might be likewise doing, no further "lineage questions" necessary to ask...
As PM points out,
Hung Suen/ Red Boat descendant schools have referred to themselves as
Hung Kyun ever since the day, and styles much more recently established may well refer themselves in this tradition also...
Or, just so as to express, that non-WFH branches are welcome to refer to themselves as "
Hung", and so people can distinguish that there may be some basic difference, within the "greater family", no further questions asked, we respectfully continue to refer to those as "
Heung"...
It may be recognized that such naming is not done simply for commercial reasons, but from a deep respect and sense of admiration for the
Hung tradition...
Therefore, while some WFH lineage "
Hung" practitioners (and people looking for WFH lineage schools under that name) may wish that those so-called "village family styles" would just refer to
themselves as "
Heung Ga", I don't see that happening anytime soon!
Welcome to the martial arts, ok...
Best,
Michael
