This is the first and only time I have seen sup duk sao as a form (as opposed to 10 separate techniques). Can anyone share info on this form?

cool, does anyone know what school the gentleman in the video is from? we perform it all the time here but rarely see it performed elsewhere (or at least caught on video)

i was never really a stickler for history on forms so i never asked my sifu. from what i gather on the internet though (and this is through years of forum stalking so my info could be wrong) is that the set is was created by Chiu Wai and is "specific" to said lineage. I remember someone mentioned that it was a form taught later in the curriculum but it was the first one i learned.

the guy in the video is a friend of mine,he learned his hung kuen in australia from a student of Chiu Wai sifu. so its Chiu Family,i dont think the set is that rare to see..its plenty of times on youtube..

on the other hand, as for the set, i do not like it much, it is a recent creation, imho not needed much. not many of my sap duk sau techniques in set as well.

Back in the day, when a school would go performing all the time, and the student could only play so much as Gung Ji Seung Lou/ Gung Ji Ha Lou, and (after a couple of years), the Fu Hok Seung Lou/ Fu Hok Ha Lou, well, I suppose a bit of change might be a welcome thing after a decade or three of that, for everyone involved...

Therefore, we are familiar today with such forms as the Mui Fa Kyun, Lau Ga Kyun, Lau Ga Jeung, Sam Ying Kyun, Wu Dip Jeung, this Sup Duk Sau form we are seeing just here, and others...

This is our association's Sup Duk Sau. Good to perform but sifu always says this is not a form!

Any idea why your sifu says it's not a form?

Because its not. Sup Duk Sau means 10 Poison Hands, a set of 10 extracts of favored techniques. This "form" is just linking them together to have something to perform for a crowd, thats all it is. Those skills are learned within other forms and developed separately.

But if you like to think of it as a form I suppose thats fine too.

I would almost put down money that it comes from Leung Wing Hang...

Can you list the names of the 10 separate techniques in your association's Sup Duk Sau - to my untrained eye, it seems like way more than 10 . If you could give the names in romanized cantonese with English translation, it would be most appreciated...then I can go back to the video and try to figure it out what is what...
